At the Stade de France, the Bataclan, in the cafes and restaurants of Paris... on Friday 13th November, terrorists killed and wounded many innocent people. And in doing so, they also aimed also to kill these places that we love, places which represent culture and a spirit of sharing.
We at WorldEventListings share the grief of the friends and families of the victims of the terrorist attacks of 13th November 2015. And we offer our unconditional support to all the cultural venues affected.
Our raison d'être has always been to share cultural information with as many people as possible. We will continue. We will win. Their failure is only a matter of time.

Description

A fascinating building.

Like the Eiffel Tower, the Cathedral of Notre Dame is one of the most important and most-visited monuments in France and of course in Paris. This famous cathedral with its two towers is a masterpiece of Gothic art, which has towered over the Ile de la Cité since the twelfth century.

It took no less than two centuries to complete this monumental work, a true compendium of knowledge, skills and techniques of the Middle Ages. Bishop Maurice de Sully, then bishop of Paris, was behind its commission in 1163.

From Jean-Paul II , the facade of Notre-Dame de Paris impresses with its rosette (one of the largest in Europe) and its high towers (69 meters) where perhaps you will spot the ghost of Quasimodo...

Victor Hugo's famous character contributes greatly to the popularity of the cathedral and help raise awareness of a campaign of restoration undertaken by Viollet-le-Duc in 1845 which gave Notre Dame its magnificent spire.

Notre Dame de Paris is a fascinating monument, thanks to the wealth and beauty of its ornaments. The south portal of the west facade, dedicated to the Virgin, and the portal of the Last Judgement, are among the masterpieces of Gothic sculpture. In the chapels, you can admire paintings by great masters such as Le Brun or Jouvenet.

Notre Dame also famous for its architecture. A masterpiece of lightness and elegance, its nave is more than 33 meters high and 60 meters long and is supported by external flying buttresses which have stood for almost eight centuries: it its a true a masterpiece of engineering.
