At the Stade de France, the Bataclan, in the cafes and restaurants of Paris... on Friday 13th November, terrorists killed and wounded many innocent people. And in doing so, they also aimed also to kill these places that we love, places which represent culture and a spirit of sharing.
We at WorldEventListings share the grief of the friends and families of the victims of the terrorist attacks of 13th November 2015. And we offer our unconditional support to all the cultural venues affected.
Our raison d'être has always been to share cultural information with as many people as possible. We will continue. We will win. Their failure is only a matter of time.

Description

Home of the monarchs.

Built on a hill that bears the same name, Castelo São Jorge is a fortified structure that dates back to the 11th century. Conquered by the Moors and taken back by the first king of Portugal, Dom Afonso Henriques, this strategic, fortified edifice was over the centuries the residence of a number of monarchs who enjoyed the security and, perhaps most of all, the incredible view.

The castle was thereafter used as a garrison and a fortress, suffering significant damages during the two now-famous earthquakes that shook the city. The Castelo São Jorge was listed as historic monument in 1910 and today, after much restoration, is home to a museum, the Olisiponia, and the Torre de Ulisses ("Tower of Ulysses"). Another fascinating attraction is the famed "periscope", designed by Leonardo Da Vinci, which gives the viewer a panoramic 360° view of the landscape.
