Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China. Located in the north-east of the country, it has nearly 20 million inhabitants. Although in terms of population, Beijing comes in second after Shanghai, it is the political and cultural centre of China. Not far from the heart of Beijing (80km) is the Great Wall of China, one of the major attractions of the country.
Chinese political power is centred in Beijing where you will find the Hall of the People in the west of Tiananmen Square. Other important government buildings and embassies are also located within the city.
